spry

sprī/
adjective
active; lively.

I have always had a great affinity for birds of every kind, probably influenced in my childhood when my treasured Nana would revel in the lovely Robins, affectionately referring to them as ‘Little Robin Redbreast’.

Perhaps it is the personification that created the soft spot. More likely, it’s the free, simple and unencumbered way they exist in the world; the metaphorical opposite of my own style.

Why are some birds revered while others are chastised? Many are ignored or worse, go unnoticed. Their intricate communication abilities and capacity for navigating complex migration patterns, amongst others, have allowed them to thrive. Nothing signals spring’s arrival as eloquently as the lively chatter of song birds returning after a winter’s absence. Birds are beguiling!
